Hosted at AMD's facility in Austin, Texas, the event was arranged to match competitive overclockers with the best silicon coming out of AMD's fabs in hopes of breaking some records and possibly hitting 7GHz. AMD invited three overclockers, Vince Lucido aka K|ngp|n, Brian McLachlan aka chew*, and Chris Morrell, aka Gomeler. On hand to answer questions and make sure things went smoothly were Peter Hardman and Simon Solotko of AMD. The overclocking went from Wednesday through Friday night with necessary breaks taken to keep the benchers for passing out on their feet. Aeneon Xtune PC3-12800 - XSs @ xsreviews.co.uk [Sep-09-08] (0 Comments) Thanksto the lowered pricing of memory these days, it's not uncommonfor relatively unknown companies to throw down the gauntlet for thebigger boys and this is a good thing, as it keeps the market leaders ontheir toes at the very least. With that in mind, today I have a kitentitled the XTune from Aeneon which is interestingly a subsidiary ofQimonda, the chip makers. Their reputation has always been relativelygood when it came to memory chips, so how will their own brand of kitstand up to the flack? Let's find out. Zalman HD160XT Plus Premium HTPC Case @ tweaknews.net [Sep-02-08] (0 Comments) I loved Zalman's HD160XT when I got a chance to look at it in early 2007. It was hard for me to imagine that they could improve on it very much. Well, they found a way. Actually a couple of ways. I like the reorganized front panel for the improved access to the control buttons and I/O features. I also think that the change to the iMON software is an improvement, not only for its functionality, but also for the future support and updates that will be available from SoundGraph. Losing fan control and temperature monitoring is a bit of a disappointment, but the fans in the HD160XT Plus are very quiet (at 5V) anyway, and looking back, I don't think I used the temp monitor that much either. Aeneon XTune DDR3 1600 4GB Kit @ pro-clockers.com [Jul-11-08] (0 Comments) Qimonda was nice enough a few months ago to let us play around with aset of XTune DDR3 PC-1333MHz. They were not too bad of a kit and did prettywell in our round of tests. As things progress and the need for more isthere we asked to review a bigger and faster kit. We were granted permissionto do so and received a set of 4GB of AXH860UD20-16H which is rated at CL9at 1600MHz. We all know there is faster out there but this kit operates atonly 1.5 volts. Not too bad for some one that doesn't want to put anunnecessary load on their system. We will now stop rambling and get on withthe testing. HIS Radeon HD 4870 CrossFire Video Card @ legitreviews.com [Jun-25-08] (0 Comments) The Radeon HD 4870 is the first retail graphics card to use GDDR5 memory and the 512MB of memory uses Qimonda branded ICs. GDDR5 introduces features and functions that go beyond previous GDDR standards and enables GDDR5 to operate at data rates up to 6 Gbps, three times the performance of todays high speed GDDR3. The memory ICs feature adaptive power management, error compensation, adaptive interface timings and date eye optimization. The ICs being used are part number IDGV1G-05A1F1C-40X, which are entry level GDDR5 chips and are rated for just 4 Gbps. ATI has them clocked at just 3.6 Gbps, so these should have some overclocking head room left in them... Zalman Trimon ZM-M220W Monitor @ rbmods.com [Jun-03-08] (0 Comments) Zalman is mostly known from their high quality cooling solutions, but during the last months Zalman has expanded their product range to cover also other interesting products. New products are FG1000, their new mice, and couple of innovative monitors. It is true, that display markets are full of products, which differ only a little from each other. Zalmans monitors have some attributes which other manufacturers do not. Zalman provided us ZM-M220W 3d-monitor for test and now we will have a look at it. Aeneon Xtune DDR3-1600 2GB Dual Channel Memory Kit @ thinkcomputers.org [May-21-08] (0 Comments) A few months ago I reviewed the Aeneon Xtune DDR3-1333 2GB kit fromQimonda. It was an impressive pair of memory modules from a company we'dnever heard of. The kit was very flexible, gaining tighter timings at lowerclockrates, and overclocked reasonably well, all at the PC3 standard of1.5v. Today I will be looking at Aeneon's latest PC3 kit, their DDR3-16002GB kit. It is rated at DDR3-1600, CL9, once again at the standard 1.5v.Will this new kit impress us as well as the earlier kit did? Continuereading to see. Zalman TRIMON 22" 3D Monitor Exclusive @ tweaktown.com [Apr-17-08] (0 Comments) The existence of the 3D concept has been around since people coul d express themselves artistically; for example, through painting or sculp tures. When the first such expression began, I certainly could not tell y ou. However, I can tell you that 3D has evolved to the point where it is now commercially available for the average user for under $1000 USD. Admi ttedly that's a lot more than most would want to pay for it, but it is a positive step in the right direction. The TRIMON is the first commercial 3D monitor available to the public fro m Zalman, and it is not often one gets to be the first to review a finall y finished product. We have been waiting for these ZM-M220W monitors to h it the shelves for a little over a year now, with the first introduction of them at CEBIT 2007. Aeneon Xtune DDR3-1333 2GB Memory Kit @ tweaktown.com [Feb-29-08] (0 Comments) Aeneon memory is a division of Qimonda, a German memory manufactu rer which is also a division of Infineon Technologies. While Infineon has been around for quite some time, Aeneon hasn't made any major jumps in to the DRAM market, so it's about time we see a new player come in. Aeneon has rated these modules for 1333MHz with a timing rating of 8-8-8- 24, which is about normal for 1333MHz modules. The SPD doesn't support Intel's XMP setup, but this doesn't stop them from running on X38/X48 chipsets. Aeneon Xtune DDR3-1333 2GB Memory Kit @ thinkcomputers.org [Feb-15-08] (0 Comments) Though the memory manufacturers are still designing and building newDDR2 memory modules, DDR3 memory is here and being used. There are plenty ofmotherboards out there that utilize DDR3 memory, and new modules are beingintroduced monthly. No, you have probably not yet heard of Aeneon. Aeneon isa division of a German company Qimonda, the world's third largestmanufacturer of DRAM, part of Infineon Technologies AG. So, there is reallynothing new about Aeneon but the name. The Rules of Game Design @ bit-tech.net [Jan-23-08] (0 Comments) One of the new features we’ve launched lately on bit-tech hasbeen guest columns. That is, columns written by developers and industryinsiders on a rotating monthly schedule. We’ve had stories and thoughtsfrom every corner of the industry, including budding indie developerslike James Silva and writers for established studios, like Simon Halland Rob Yescombe. After reading Simon Hill’s latest column, which talked about difficulty balancing in computer games and why hethinks computer games have got progressively easier, I got thinking. The more I thought about the topic, the more I decided I wanted to dosomething about it – partly because I’m a pretty heavy gamer and I likemy games to be worth the effort, but mainly because I'm just a noseybusy-body.As I looked into the issue though, the more my mind raged with examplesof how games had changed for the worse over the years – how simpleconcepts that had once been core to the design of every game were nowbeing forgotten or dismissed. The rules that had governed and createdthe Golden Axe Age of Gaming were now no longer beingobeyed.Naturally, being a bit of presumptuous so-and-so, I decided to shove mynose in and take Simon’s complaint to the next level. Thus, I presentwhat I think are the cardinal rules of game design. [News] SoundGraph iMON Ultra Bay LCD Display @ virtual-hideout.net [Oct-31-07] (0 Comments) Earlier this year, I reviewed a multimedia LCD screen with remote.Well, now I'm reviewing another one, except this one has a little morepizzazz. The iMON Ultra Bay IR Receiver and LCD Display is the newest modelmade by SoundGraph, Inc. It is basically an upgraded version of SoundGraph'siMON VFD. The iMON Ultra Bay is twice as high as most LCD display screens, butdon't let that frighten you. The upper section is the LCD screen itself(which is approximately the same size as other screens,) and the bottomsection has a number of nice, handy buttons and knobs with which to controlthe device. The iMON Ultra Bay also boasts a remote that is compatible withboth MCE remote controllers and keyboards. The remote and deviceknobs/buttons together give users access to their multimedia systems both upclose and from afar. Through these features, SoundGraph touts the iMON UltraBay as an easier, more thorough way to monitor both system and mediainformation. Let's see if what they say is true. Qimonda @ techpowerup.com [Jun-20-07] (0 Comments) You will not find any overclocked DDR2 or DDR3 memory at the Qimonda booth. They have focused on special products like memory embedded on a mainboard or SODIMM to DIMM adapters. DDR memory and the full range of DDR3 memory - including DDR3 SODIMMs can be viewed at their booth Cooler Master CM Media 280 Enclosure @ viperlair.com [Apr-04-07] (0 Comments) With support for enough devices for a good HTPC, and the convertibility to be a good Mid-tower as well make this one case to not overlook. The CM Media 280 has sharp looks and the option for the built in VFD display with media control buttons and IR Receiver solidify its place in the HTPC case sector. Cooling performance was adequate with potential to be great. The case was nice and quiet when tied with other silent components. The iMon VFD control software works well, although lacking in customizability the built in presets allow for easy operation and cover most if not all of your display needs. SoundGraph iMON Ultra Bay @ techpowerup.com [Feb-21-07] (0 Comments) Soundgraph has updated their own VFD series with a new display which is not only twice as big, but one could say twice as good as well. The one aspect which did not get bigger, but in fact, smaller is its price. While the original Soundgraph VFD had a price tag of ~$100 the new Ultra Bay sells for $95. The new graphical LCD is a great choice to display any type of font, while the new buttons make navigating even easier than before. SoundGraph iMON 2.4G LT & DT @ techpowerup.com [Jun-05-06] (0 Comments) Soundgraph was established in 2000 as a spinoff from Samsung. Their latest product is the SoundGraph iMON 2.4G series of remote controls. Unlike traditional infrared remotes they use 2.4 GHz wireless. The advantage of this is that it will work through walls and you don't have to point the remote at the receiver. Even though the 2.4 GHz band is used there were no problems running with an active wireless LAN nearby. The set is made of a bright and responsive VFD with an integrated volume control and large infrared remote control.
