Intel Core i5 750 - XSs @ xsreviews.co.uk
[Sep-08-09] (0 Comments)

Theintroduction of the Core i7 range of processors late last year wasthe beginning of the Nehalem family. The processors have had a mixedreception and it is fair to say that although the new series has beenimpressive performance wise, the pricing was and still is too much formany users. After all, the LGA1366 socket requires not only theprocessor but also an X58 motherboard and triple channel DDR3 memory. The Core i5’s aim is to offer what the i7’s couldn’t – an affordablemid-range CPU. The C2D and Pentium processors still make up asignificant amount of the market but the Nehalem micro-architecture isexpected to take over gradually. As a rule of thumb, the i7 series is high-end intended for hardcoreenthusiasts, Core i5 is mid ranged with the Core i3’s (yet to bereleased) aimed at entry level customers. Without further ado, let’stake a better look at the CPU on offer today. Introducing the Core i5750.

ASUS Eee PC 1005HA Seashell Netbook Video @ pcper.com

For the price, the ASUS 1005HA offers a lot of very unique andinteresting features that you won't find on other netbooks including supportfor 802.11n networking and Bluetooth 2.1 + AD2P support for wireless audiostreaming. Not only that, but it has a sexy seashell design (hence the nameof course) and great battery life (though not up to the 10 hours quoted byASUS exactly) for a price under $400. There were a couple of drawbacks, notably the trackpad and overall system performance, but in terms of best inclass netbook devices, this is one of the top.

BFG 9800 GX2 1GB Video Card ed @ thetechlounge.com
[Aug-06-08] (0 Comments)

It would be very, very hard not to covet this video card. I know I recently said that the 9800 GTX was the sexy card, but this one might actually look nicer, eye of the beholder and all. And it's not just skin-deep, it's faaast, and because of that, we can overlook its frightening heat production and power consumption. But it isn't a bargain. Thanks to price warring, it's in the 'you gotta be crazy' and not the 'price is no question' bracket, and because of that, it'll get more attention than it might deserve. It's compelling, after all-- especially the idea of quad SLI. Not that I'd turn one down, but the people for whom it makes sense are fewer than the people that can afford it. That is to say, it's a great piece of hardware, but it's only a good idea in the strictest of circumstances.

Corsair VX550W PSU @ bit-tech.net
[May-06-08] (0 Comments)

Continually, we find ourselves looking at great Corsair PSUs –the HX,the TX and now the VX have all performed fantastically. The VX550W doesexactly what it says on the tin and even though our model dropped afraction below 80 percent load under significant 3.3V and 5V stress,it's very unlikely they'll ever hit these sorts of values in a real PC.Where it matters the Corsair VX550W works exceptionally well, hittingupwards of 85 percent efficiency throughout the rest of the tests. We'dbe torn between the significant benefits of buying modular, versus theextra cost and slightly lower power. I used the VX550W in my own hometheatre PC for a few months prior to this review and it was nothing butfantastic. In this instance, cable management didn't matter since therewas a large enough case that was designed just to be super-low noise:in that respect it worked perfectly. I even had to install an extracathode it to tell if the system was on or off, simply because it was thatquiet I couldn't hear it unless my head was all of two inches away.Ihad to swap it out for the Thermaltake Toughpower Q-Fan 650W wereviewed before the Corsair and while that quotes just 17dB you'd bevery hard pushed to tell them apart. I'd still prefer to use theCorsair VX550W simply because the cables are better designed (4+4-pinEPS 12V instead of an 8-pin with a 4-pin tail), even though it's notmodular. For any Intel P35/P45 or AMD 770X, 780G based PC with mainstreamcomponents the VX550W should absolutely suffice, but it's not theanswer for everyone – there are a lot more ifs and buts than when welooked at the TX750W. If you do decide to buy a VX550W though, youwon't be disappointed.

XFX GeForce 9800 GX2 1GB - Dual G92 is Sexy @ pcper.com
[Mar-18-08] (0 Comments)

Is the extra performance you get out of the 9800 GX2 in thebenchmarks and gaming results we saw today worth that much extra money? While this is a very personal question between you and your wallet I'd haveto say it is a definite maybe. In talking with XFX I'm reasonably certainthat the prices for these cards will be at the $599 price point but I thinkthat in NVIDIA's complicated board design and cooler design has forced themto raise the price of the car to higher than they or their partners wouldhave liked.

Technology Theme of 2008:Sexy Looks @ cooltechzone.com
[Jan-14-08] (0 Comments)

We are at a point where the technology industry is all about looks and sex appeal. At least that's what the companies are saying. We could choose to believe them knowing that a lot of consumers are demanding sleek electronics, instead of beige, boring boxes hosting the hardware, but, as you know by now, CES was terrible this year, and a lot of companies resorted to changing a few things here and there to add flair to their existing product line. That could be another factor. Either way, sexy looks were all the rage this year. And that looks to be the future.

OCZ Vendetta @ bit-tech.net
[Dec-23-07] (0 Comments)

For the size, theOCZ Vendetta is exceptionally capable, providing yourun the fan at full speed. If you're anything like us, that'll justdrive you nuts, however it seems that some in our community have agreater tolerance to these things so it could suit them well. Using theincluded 4-pin connector on the fan works well, providing yourmotherboard has the facility to use it – although you can still swap itfor any 92mm of choice and take the performance hit. However, does thecost of an extra 92mm fan on top of this heatsink simply equate to abigger heatsink altogether? The attention to detail, like the rubber fan mounts and pitted fins, isexcellent. In addition to its great build quality and because it'ssmaller than most heatsinks we’ve seen recently, it should easily fitmore restrictive boards as well. It's a great replacement for the stockIntel heatsink but some might not be sure if it's worth £5 more thanthe Arctic Cooler Freezer 7 Pro which, at the same noise level, shouldperform fairly similarly to the Vendetta.

bit-tech :BFGTech GeForce 8800 GT OC 512MB @ bit-tech.net
[Nov-12-07] (0 Comments)

We continue tobe impressed by Nvidia’s GeForce 8800 GT and in the grand scheme ofthings, and BFGTech’s overclocked card continues that trend. Admittedly, the BFGTech 8800 GT OC is only a few frames per secondfaster than the reference card in most scenarios, but the benefit ofthe BFGTech card is that it comes with a decent warranty and, fromexperience, good customer services too.At around £182 (inc. VAT) with free delivery for active bit-tech forummembers, it’s not the cheapest GeForce 8800 GT available - but it’swell-placed in the middle of the pricing matrix.  XFX’s Alpha Dog XXXEdition, which comes with 670MHz core and 1950MHz memory clocks is allthe way up at £223 (inc. VAT), while the cheapest stock-clocked GeForce8800 GT we’ve seen is around the £165-mark.Ultimately, it depends what you’re after and, if you don’t mind waitinga few days, BFGTech’s GeForce 8800 GT OC2 should be available to buy onOverclockers UK for around £195 (inc. VAT).  This card comes clocked at675MHz core, 1674MHz shader and 1950MHz memory – you can achieve thiswith a bit of overclocking on the 8800 GT OC, but is it worth saving£10 to potentially void your warranty? On the whole, BFGTech’s GeForce 8800 GT OC card delivers and it earns arecommendation from us, but we’d like pricing (on the whole) to settledown to more respectable levels.  At the very least, we’d like theprices to come down to the levels we were told the GeForce 8800 GT wasexpected to hit in the run-up to its launch back on the 29th October. I guess we’re not going to see prices settle down until the demandstarts to drop off a little though, so it's a case of either get onewhen you can, or wait  a while until the demand shrinks – supply isvery short at the moment it would seem, as everywhere we’ve looked, allGeForce 8800 GTs are on backorder.

Running on Steam - a look at digital distribution now and in the future @ bit-tech.net
[Jun-28-07] (0 Comments)

In order toget 13 million on board, you have to get their publishersas well as some pretty big titles. And how do you do that, when youdirectly compete with their business? A publisher's job is to bring adeveloper's game to the public, for a pretty hefty sum. Getting the indie developers, of course, is a lot easier...and that isexactly what Valve did, starting with itself. After the fallout withVivendi Universal regarding the original Half-Lifeand the costs for its sequel, Valve decided to give Steam its firstshot as more than just a match-making and anti-cheat program. It usedSteam as the activation method for HL2, providing it with each boxedcopy. With the HL2 bomb dropped, it was time to get serious with indiedevelopers.

Obviously, this has some potentially quite seriousimplications, because gate leakage tunnelling through the silicon dioxide increasesexponentially when the dielectric gate walls get thinner and thinner.Excessive current leakage causes an increase in power dissipation andheat output – something that the Prescott core was famous for. What youend up with is a transistor that’s never fully switched to off;instead, you’ve got millions of transistors that resemble a light bulbthat only dims when you switch it off. In other words, the transistorsend up becoming power inefficient.

Antec Neo HE 500W Power Supply @ thinkcomputers.org
[Dec-15-05] (0 Comments)

I've done quite a few reviews of Antec products, and they have never failed to disappoint. Their products are alwaysexcellent performing and made with high quality standards in mind. Today I have my first official review of an Antec power supply;I've reviewed quite a few products by them but never a power supply. I have gotten power supplies with the cases I have reviewedyes, but the review was about the case not the power supply. I've heard a lot of great things about Antec power supplies; they arealways on a list of award winning and recommended power supplies, so I was looking forward to this review.

ABS Stealth ATX Chassis @ viperlair.com
[Dec-06-05] (0 Comments)

All in all the Stealth is an awesome case, it looks awesome and is very well built. ABS did their homework and for the most part came up with a perfect case. The two cons I listed are minor and shouldn't be a major problem for most users. It's simple elegant design is a sight for sore eyes when so many cases these days look like robots, demons, cars etc. The Stealth goes to the top of my VERY short list of sexy, classy, elegant cases.

Nitro Ax Full Tower Server Case @ atruereview.com
[Nov-26-05] (0 Comments)

I'm tired of reviewing the same type of cases. Same interior and adifferent front face, that is the typical mid-tower today. Maybe that iswhy I truly enjoy the server cases. They have plenty of room and greatcooling. The looks can be bland at times, but some are very professionallooking. No matter what though, they are innovative. That is why I wasexcited when I-Star offered me the chance to review their Nitro Ax servercase.

Apple Mighty Mouse @ bonafidereviews.com
[Sep-16-05] (0 Comments)

The reviews I have read on the Mighty Mouse focus on the negative:only two-button functionality with Windows, no satisfying click from the side buttons, a short cord, and the like. All of these criticisms are accurate—the Mighty Mouse does have its weak points. Still, what these other reviews have not stressed enough is how sexy the Mighty Mouse is!

HP LaserJet 2420-DN Network Laser Printer Review @ pcstats.com
[Mar-25-05] (0 Comments)

A good quality laser printer is still an essential for any office where printing is required. We work in an office ourselves, and we know how difficult it can be to find reliable unbiased information in the less-than-sexy area of reliable business equipment. Weve taken a look at several laser printers over the last few months, and today were pleased to have another one in-house. The Hewlett-Packard Laserjet 2420dn model that were looking at is a networked monochrome laser printer with a 1200x1200 maximum resolution, 64MB of onboard memory (expandable to 320MB), 350 sheet paper capacity, a built-in HP JetDirect Ethernet print server, and automatic duplex printing.

NVIDIA's nForce4 Professional Launch @ HEXUS
[Jan-31-05] (0 Comments)

Socket 940 just got sexy again. Uniprocessor Opteron and Athlon FX systems
get PCI Express and arguably the best disk and networking controllers on the market.
SMP Opteron gets everything in counts of two or four, over and above the base CK8-04
configuration and feature set. Board partners seem to be ignoring uniprocessor for
the time being, dual and quad Opteron getting masses of nForce4 love from the likes
of Tyan.

Mushkin 1GB DC DDR2 PC2-5300 @ techniz.co.uk
[Jan-23-05] (0 Comments)

The Mushkin DDR2 PC5300 memory modules are very overclockable RAM.
Furthermore, it comes with a sexy black heat spreader. As for the
performance, with the slightly loosen the timing, the RAM was able to hit
336.5MHz which is equal to DDR 673. That was an excellent result. But, we
were unable to test it higher due to the limitation of the processor
default speed which is at 3.2GHz, we have hit the wall of this processor.
This Mushkin DDR2 PC5300 memory module is really a good buy at the MSRP at
US $274 for a DDR2 range of memory.

The Cooler Master Cavalier 1 (CAV-T01) Case has lots of useful features and looks fantastic. OCZ PowerStream 420W PSU @ Viper Lair

The OCZ PowerStream has hit the mark, and then some. Not only is this power supply
of the highest quality, it is quiet and sexy. OCZ has hit a homer with the
PowerStream line, it would have been a Grand Slam had they wrapped up all of their
power leads, but that is only a small issue and you can wrap them yourself to get
the colors you desire.

Thermalright NB-1C @ Steamed Turtle
[Sep-19-04] (0 Comments)

Back in march, I had the honour of being amongst the first to review the then-latest fanctastic addition to the thermalright line up. The NB-1 impressed immensely, my only qualm being that it didn't match the SP-97 for pure-copper-sexiness. Thermalright are good at taking on board the findings of we journalistic types, and it is with pleasure that I introduce to you, the valued readers, the thermalright NB-1C. Machined from a single copper block, the NB-1C is 100% solid copper. Your northbridge doesn't get much happier than this. Lets see how this baby performs...

Windows XP Security Tweaking for the paranoid guide updated @ I Am Not A Geek
[Jul-08-04] (0 Comments)

With the amount of spyware and malicious scripts floating around anybody that keeps sensitive materials on their system never can be too careful. I'd like to show you some tweaks that you should be using to help keep your data a bit safer than on default machines. The other part that I'll be looking into is pure paranoia! Everybody's out to get you, don't let your computer transmit data ANYWHERE without you telling it to.

This guide is intended for all of the people who believe tinfoil hats are fashionable. 99.5% of the people out there won't need or want these tweaks. We're not geeks REALLY! I like the way my hat makes me feel.... It makes me feel sexy AND secure.

Logitech diNovo Media Desktop Review @ Max It

Keyboards and mice. An essential item. You press a key and move the mouse
and stuff happens. Are you turned on yet? Now if some manufacturer came
along and asked you to shell out over £150 for the priviledge of pressing
Crtl-Alt-Del you'd probably tell them to shove the 'Insert' key where the
sun don't shine. Enter Logitech with both butt cheeks clenched tight. The
all singing, all dancing sexed up bluetooth media desktop, might just be
enough to tempt you to splash out a big wad.

Logitech Z3 Speakers @ Envy News
[May-12-04] (0 Comments)

Gone are the days of five-foot tall and ten driver cone speakers the size of small fridges. Replaced by Neodymium rare-earth magnets, zero-vibration materials, metal drivers, and smart resonance chambers, the new-generation bookshelf speakers have stepped in to eradicate the need of yester-decade's offerings. It's apparent from the low-end to the bleeding-edge high-end; small, compact, and sexy are the way to go. Today's young industrial and acoustic designers are employing over a century of audio engineering and combining these principles with present-day mass-manufacturing. The end result - top tier audio fidelity for the masses. It seems to be the trend for 2004; clean and smart designs combined with quality and excellence.

Not so with the Steelpad 4S. This mouse pad is made to draw attention. It’s big, it’s flashy and it might even work. Let’s

PowerColor Radeon9800XT Video Card Review @ GruntVillE
[Apr-05-04] (0 Comments)

The large fan on the sexy heat sink is the first thing to catch your eye. The copper airflow channels and the silk screened generator-like image flank the large fan. The ATI classic red board serves as a nice background. The HSF covers not only the GPU but also the memory. The fan works as an intake and blows air through the copper channels under the silk screen. The nice part is that it only takes up the AGP slot and doesn't interfere with the PCI slots.

Black Icemat Review @ HardExtreme.org
[Jan-21-04] (0 Comments)

I gotta say that I’m amazed. The IceMat is impressive in the looks department. The IceMat marketing team has really studied what is “cool” in the marketplace. Classic Black is given a makeover with the frosted glass overlay, and the steamy result oozes sex appeal. It will scream skill and class when you pull it out of your bag of tricks for that intensive LAN party. Take one last look. She’s a real beauty,
BUT DON’T DROP IT! or you will be chasing shiny shards of glass with your dustpan.
